"Chasing Hope"
with Nicholas Kristof
Season 9, Episode 01

Op-ed Columnist for the New York Times, Nicholas Kristof is a master of the compelling narrative,  never failing to captivate our attention with stories that resonate with us as humans, challenge us to both imagine a more just world and inspire us to take action to make that world a reality.

Nick has worked almost continuously at the Times as a reporter, foreign correspondent and bureau chief. He was awarded two Pulitzer Prizes – one with his wife Sheryl WuDunn in 1990 for their coverage of China, and a second in 2006 for his columns on the genocide in Dafur.  He and his wife have also co-authored five books:  Tightrope, A Path Appears, Half the Sky, Thunder from the East and China Wakes.

His brand new book, Chasing Hope: A Reporter’s Life, chronicles his extraordinary path from a small-town farm in Oregon to a front-row seat in century-defining events in every corner of the globe, including, the Tiananmen Square protests and massacre in China, the Dafur genocide in Sudan, the anticommunist movement in Eastern Europe, the  civil war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Arab Spring.  Yet, Nick has brought lesser-known stories to our attention, like sex trafficking in Cambodia; beheadings in Indonesia; kidnapping of school girls in Uganda; the despair, addiction and death in small town America; the role of prestigious financial institutions in funding online porn sites featuring child rape.

Nick graduated from Harvard College, earning Phi Beta Kappa honors  and won a Rhodes Scholarship to study law at Oxford. He also studied Arabic at the American University in Cairo.
