Myra Sack is a mother, author, speaker, and the founder of e-motion, a nonprofit that blends bereavement, science, spirituality, and sport to help those who’ve lost a loved one find a new way of living with grief and loss. Myra’s life changed forever when her first daughter, Havi Lev Goldstein was diagnosed with Tay-Sachs disease, a rare terminal neuro-degenerative disorder, which, according to the National Institutes of Health is present in about one out of every 320,000 births in the US. Havi was diagnosed on December 17, 2019. On January 20, 2021, she passed away. After Havi’s passing, Myra began writing about her experience. Her first article, a mother’s letter on the passing of her young daughter, was published on Upworthy.com in January 2022 and quickly reached over 2.7 million viewers. She has a BA from Dartmouth College, an MBA from Boston College and is also trained as a certified, compassionate bereavement facilitator. Myra has now written her first book, “57 Fridays: Losing our Daughter, Finding our Way“. This book is the topic of this episode.
